An instrument with its paper trail

The red case and pale trim give this Holo-Electron an immediate warmth. Within it, the cream two-dial panel feels like a little control room, surrounded by glass and surviving papers. It is a wonderfully inviting combination.

I have a soft spot for an apparatus whose written companions have stayed close. The machine gives you the construction and the controls; the papers let you explore how someone explained it, sold it and pictured its place in everyday life. Here there is enough to enjoy on both sides.

The restoration and condition

My restoration notes describe work to the original specification with authentic components, a restored and tested power lead, and insulation, resistance and leakage checks. They record strong, stable violet output and a 220–240 V supply with UK plug fitted.
