A closer look.

A little wooden cabinet with a great deal of presence

The warm wood and deep purple lining give this Everay its character before you reach the controls. Open the lid and the glass becomes part of the composition, set above a black three-control panel, with the dark handpiece and cable resting in the lower compartment. It has that wonderfully absorbing quality of a machine arranged to be opened, understood and kept together.

The instrument within the case

The panel carries the Everay name and three separate black controls. Their spacing, the dark polished face and the long metal hinge give the interior a pleasing sense of order. This is the particular wooden-cased Clinic Model shown in its own photograph, with its own arrangement of glass and fittings. The individual details matter more than a familiar maker’s name alone.

The shapes in the lid

The pictured glass includes a double-ended form at the upper left, slender stems, a comb-like head, a broad rounded face and a sweeping curved piece lower down. A broader clear-glass attachment sits towards the right. The different outlines are part of the attraction: a small collection of glassworking ideas within one fitted lid, each giving the whole set a different visual rhythm.

The original inclusions describe a complete matching electrode set as pictured. The range of shapes gives the cabinet much of its character, and rewards a closer look at how the glass has been formed and arranged. Enquire about the exact supplied selection and any closer views you would like.

The handpiece and its recorded restoration detail

The dark handpiece rests below the controls, surrounded by the coiled lead. The retained owner description names the original Everay Clinic Model device, its original velvet-lined hardwood case and a restored, insulated power cable with a UK plug fitted. Together, the panel, handpiece and fitted case form a wonderfully complete scene, with the glass displayed above and the practical details held neatly below.

The next conversation

What draws us back is the relationship between those pieces: wood, purple lining, black panel, handpiece and the delicate glass above. It is an instrument with an unmistakable presence, full of the little details that make original apparatus worth looking at properly.
