An electrical object with theatre
The Radiostat is difficult to forget. Its marbled burgundy-brown case, gold lettering and dark control plate give it the presence of an object somebody cared deeply about presenting. The engineering and the appearance feel part of the same idea. Even closed, the case has character; opened, the lettering, controls and fittings make it richer still.
The exterior carries RADIOSTAT and a 150 marking. On the faceplate, Störungsfrei für Radio and Erdschlussfrei sit beside the Aus-to-Stark control scale. Those original inscriptions are lovely pieces of the design, tying the apparatus to its own technical language and period typography.
Two handles, one distinctive set
This Radiostat has a primary wand and a secondary conductive handle with its connecting lead. Beside them, the pictured glass includes comb, mushroom and probe-like forms, together with a metal cylindrical fitting. The variety gives the case a compelling rhythm: each material and shape introduces another detail to explore.
My restoration notes
My notes describe the marbled Bakelite case and fittings, a polished and re-lined interior, a modern insulated replacement power lead and insulation, resistance and leakage checks. The matching electrodes were tested. The set has a 220–240 V supply with a UK plug and is graded Used – like new.
The complete presentation
The Radiostat comes with its original marbled carry case, primary glass-electrode wand, secondary conductive handle and connecting lead, pictured electrode selection and restored and tested power cable. What I love is the way all those details belong together: the dial, German lettering, two handles and that extraordinary case. It rewards familiarity. A machine that catches your eye immediately, then gives you more to appreciate every time you open the lid.
Condition: Used – like new.
