A closer look.
The machine and the paper beside it
An old instrument becomes especially compelling when its papers have stayed close. This Everay Ideal has its original instruction manual, guarantee and documentation beside the glass and controls. I find that combination hard to resist. You have the object itself, then the words and illustrations that helped someone understand it. Together they bring a little of its original world back into the room.
The IDEAL name gives this Everay a distinctive face, and the purple-lined case frames the apparatus beautifully. The lining carries visible wear, a gentle reminder that this is an object with a history. Those textures belong to its character as much as the polished fittings and the shapes of the glass.
My restoration notes
My notes describe retaining the original internal components, testing the matching glass electrodes, restoring and testing the power lead, and carrying out insulation, resistance and leakage checks. The supply is 220–240 V with a UK plug. The set is graded Used – good.
Glass, controls and original papers
The Ideal comes with the original manual, guarantee and accompanying documentation, matching pictured glass, restored and tested power lead and its original case. I particularly enjoy how the papers change the way you look at the apparatus. A control plate tells you where a hand was meant to go; a booklet gives a glimpse of how its possibilities were presented. They make a fascinating pair.
A proper place in the collection
The pleasure of this Everay is in the whole arrangement: the model lettering, purple fabric, glass and papers all belong to the experience of opening the case. There is an intimacy to it that a loose generator can never quite offer. It is a lovely opportunity to spend time with the craftsmanship and imagination of high-frequency electrotherapy, and to give an individual Ideal its next chapter.
Condition: Used – good.
