A distinctive IXU in a black-grey fitted case, with a black twin-control panel, two original black handles and a varied glass selection. Its output-and-return arrangement makes this a particularly interesting apparatus to study.

⚙️ OVERVIEW
This is a highly unusual and technically interesting Violet Ray set, distinguished by its dual-handle configuration — where the secondary handle is connected to the return, allowing the system to operate in a closed-loop / MWO-style (multi-wave oscillation) configuration.
This feature is not common and is typically only seen on higher-end European or experimental Tesla-era instruments. It fundamentally changes how the field behaves compared to standard single-wand Violet Rays.
This is not a gimmick — it is a deliberate design choice rooted in early high-frequency and resonant field experimentation.
🔄 DUAL HANDLE / MWO EFFECT
Unlike conventional Violet Rays (single output, passive return), this set allows:
✔️ Active output handle
✔️ Dedicated return handle
✔️ Closed-circuit field interaction
✔️ More coherent, directional energy flow
✔️ Stronger coupling between electrodes and user
In practice, this creates a noticeably different feel to operation — often described as deeper, more enveloping, and more stable, especially when used with coil or spiral electrodes.
Those familiar with MWO, closed-loop, or resonant field concepts will immediately understand the significance of this configuration.
🔌 PERFORMANCE & OPERATION
✔️ Strong, clean violet plasma
✔️ Smooth rheostat control
✔️ Stable output across intensity range
✔️ Excellent response on spiral & coil electrodes
✔️ Distinctive behaviour when using dual handles together
✔️ Clean ozone presence
✔️ Quiet, well-behaved transformer
This unit is clearly more than a standard domestic Violet Ray — it behaves like a serious experimental or professional instrument.
🔮 ELECTRODE SET
Includes a well-selected range of original glass electrodes, such as:
• Straight probe electrode
• Spiral / coil electrode
• Multi-node rake electrode
• Bulb / mushroom electrode
• Curved / contoured electrode
• Additional glass return electrode
• Dual handles (output + return)
All glass seats correctly, glows evenly, and shows good internal response when energised.
🛠️ CONDITION
• Very good condition for age
• Case solid with working hinges and clasps
• Controls smooth and responsive
• Cables supple and intact
• Glass free from cracks or repairs
• Original configuration retained
This is a proper period instrument, not a modern reinterpretation or modified unit.
🧠 WHY THIS SET IS SPECIAL
Most Violet Rays are open-ended systems.
This one is closed-loop capable.
That places it in a different category entirely, closer to experimental Tesla-era field devices than mass-market electrotherapy tools.
These were never common, and most collectors will go years without seeing one in this configuration.

A closer look.
Two handles, and a reason to look closer
The pair of handles is the first detail that draws me into this IXU. Then the black two-control panel, fitted compartments and glass begin to make sense as a whole. It is a restrained presentation, but one with enough unusual detail to keep a curious collector occupied.
I enjoy an apparatus that raises a question through its construction. Here it is the relationship between the handles, the controls and the different glass forms. The black-grey case gives all of those pieces a quiet setting, letting the arrangement speak for itself.
Output and return
My notes identify one handle as the active output and the other as a dedicated return. I describe that arrangement as closed-loop or MWO-style in those notes; it is the output-and-return configuration that I am referring to. The two original black handles and their connections are an important part of this set's character.
The restoration notes record smooth rheostat adjustment, stable violet plasma across the intensity range and testing before the listing. The condition is Used – good, with working hinges and clasps, smooth controls, supple cables and glass described as free from cracks or repairs.
The glass and the fitted set
The original glass selection includes straight probe, spiral or coil, multi-node rake, bulb or mushroom and curved forms, together with an additional glass return electrode. There is a real pleasure in looking through such a varied group and seeing how differently a glassworker could shape the same basic idea.
The IXU generator, two original black handles, pictured original glass selection, fitted case and power lead accompany the apparatus. Enquire here if you would like to examine the configuration more closely or see a demonstration. It is an intriguing piece to spend time with.
Condition: Used – good.
