A blue Holo-Electron, with its years still written across the case.
This earlier Holo-Electron has a quieter kind of beauty: a blue fitted case opening onto a matching blue interior, with the original control unit and substantial handpiece still presented together. The colour carries the eye across the whole arrangement. It gives the set a recognisable mood without needing an extravagant shape or an elaborate claim to hold your attention.
The recorded exterior staining and cosmetic wear are part of its portrait. To me, a vintage instrument becomes more interesting when its age can still be read honestly. There is a difference between caring for an object and removing every visible trace of its journey; these photographs preserve a useful view of both its presentation and its years.
Inside the blue case
The earlier description records an interior that presents well, an original control unit, a substantial handpiece and a specialist electrode selection. Together they show the familiar ambition of a cased violet ray: to gather an electrical system and its interchangeable glasswork into a self-contained instrument that could be understood through its physical arrangement.
There is real design intelligence in that gathering of parts. The handpiece sits between the enclosed machinery and the selected attachment, while the fitted spaces preserve the relationship between otherwise separate objects. Looking across the photographs, I find the ensemble more compelling than any single component. The case makes a collection into a recognisable machine.
An object allowed to have a past
A machine can be lovingly regarded without pretending that it has escaped time. Here, the notes about the exterior give useful depth to the visual record. They invite the collector to look carefully at edges, surfaces and the contrast between the outside and the fitted interior, instead of accepting a vague description of something simply being old or immaculate.
That is what this ARC hive entry keeps: an earlier view of a particular French apparatus, including the details that made it individual. The linked relisted listing offers the next part of its catalogue trail. This earlier page remains a place to study the blue presentation, the original ensemble and the honest evidence of a life already lived.
