The Holo-Electron name, held in an earlier portrait of the collection.
This earlier Holo-Electron Paris entry preserves a simple but worthwhile connection: a named apparatus, its original listing and its place in the Forgotten Frequencies collection. The surviving text is brief. Rather than dress it in the specifications of a different set, I want to give the record room to retain its own identity and invite a properly attentive look at its photographs.
There is a strong pull in the Holo-Electron name itself, with its mixture of technical language and period ambition. It belongs to a world in which electrical ideas were given physical presence through instrument cases, controls and specialised fittings. That wider fascination is part of the reason even a sparsely documented individual entry deserves to remain visible.
An individual within a larger family
The maker identity gives a starting point for comparison, but a family resemblance is not a complete specification. Different recorded Holo-Electron sets in the collection have their own presentations and surviving contents. Keeping this earlier record separate allows those differences to remain meaningful, instead of turning every example into a single composite description that no actual machine quite matches.
I find that individuality central to collecting. A case, a panel marking, a piece of paperwork or an attachment can supply the clue that distinguishes one apparatus from another. Where the written record is short, the original photographic record becomes especially important, preserving the visible arrangement and giving the curious collector a place to begin looking more closely.
Keeping the thread unbroken
The purpose of an ARC hive is partly to stop small pieces of a collection’s history from slipping away. A short listing can later connect with a manual, an identification or a better understanding of a particular variant. Preserving its own reference makes that future connection possible, while maintaining the boundary between this example and more extensively described sets.
This page therefore remains an earlier catalogue portrait, with no new assertion about its present availability or condition. Its value is the thread it keeps intact: Holo-Electron Paris, the original listing and the material recorded with it. For a collector drawn to French high-frequency apparatus, that is a thoughtful place from which to begin a closer conversation.
